Midwinter Social

Adults can enjoy a Chili Supper while viewing the movie and discussing ”Outside Looking In: Transracial Adoption in America.” Childcare will be provided.

Date: Friday February 19

Time: 6:00-8:30pm

Place: The Chapel, Green Campus

Bring: An item from the sign up list, see below.

RSVP: No later than February 17 with number attending, including names and ages of your children needing childcare.

Notes: When responding, please indicate which item you will bring to contribute to our dinner. Thanks!

…And hope all had a good night!

Our 2009 Christmas party was a success and was well attended by familiar faces and some new faces, too. While the kids were enjoying a frenzied game of tag, I enjoyed watching the adults visit and catch up.

Hello Everyone!

This is a last call to RSVP for NEXT MONDAY’s Christmas Party. Here are the details:

Date: December 7, 2009

Time: 6-8pm *Please note time change from previous email*

Place: The Chapel, Akron Campus,

Fellowship Hall

Cost: $15 per family, includes pizza dinner, dessert, drinks

Bring: a festively wrapped edible Christmas treat (Candy, cookies, etc.) for an exchange game, if desired. (Bring one wrapped treat for each person who wants to play the game.)

A quick update to ask everyone to save the date of Monday December 7, 2009 for our annual Christmas Party. This year we will hold our party at The Chapel’s AKRON CAMPUS in the Fellowship Hall. We will plan to gather around 5:30.

Picnic!

Who is ready for a Woven Together Family Picnic? Well we are and hope you are, too! This year we are holding our annual picnic on Sunday September 20, 2009 from 1-4pm. It will be held at Boettler Park in Green. We will have a pavilion with picnic tables and the park has a super playground for kids.

We are asking each family to bring a side dish to share and drinks for your own family. We will provide hot dogs, buns, chips, dessert, and table service.

This will be a great time to catch up with old friends, bring new friends, and also to sign up to help with our upcoming events: the Christmas Party & the winter Speaker event.

As a reminder to anyone who may have missed our announcement, we have changed formats and will no longer be meeting on the first Tuesdays. Our format will consist of periodic events rather than monthly meetings.

Woven Together April Meeting

Hello Everyone! This is a note to let you know our monthly Woven Together meeting will be held on Tuesday April 14. We do usually meet the first Tuesday of each month, but because Holy Week is this coming week and childcare is unavailable to us, we decided to move the meeting to the following week.

We realize that with Spring Breaks, spring sports, etc, some of you may be unable to attend. An RSVP is especially appreciated this month, as if most of you are unable to attend, we will cancel until May. Please let us know by sending an email here.

This month we have planned a movie/discussion night. The movie is a panel of teenagers who speak frankly on their views of adoption and about being adopted. We will provide some salty snacks to enjoy while watching the movie. If anyone would like to bring some sweet snacks to balance the salty, let us know!

We have a very special event planned for our May 5 meeting. Please mark your calendar NOW and plan to attend. More details to come.

Until then, Happy Easter and we look forward to seeing you on April 14!

Hello! We would like to invite everyone to our March meeting, this coming Tuesday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. in Green. Our own Lisa Gladieux will share with us about finding joy in parenting children with special needs. Not only is Lisa the mother of beautiful Anna, she is also a social worker. We are blessed that she is willing to share her wisdom and experience with us.

As always, we would appreciate if you would RSVP for childcare so we know how many workers we need.

Woven Together February Meeting

Hello everyone! Just a reminder that our monthly Woven Together meeting will be this coming Tuesday night at 6:30 at The Chapel’s Green Campus.

We are going to make a second attempt for a Swap & Share meeting. Bring with you a parenting/adoption/or even a children’s book that you have read and found valuable. We will discuss the books and, if you are comfortable, we will provide labels so that we can swap parenting books with each other.

Also-this is the last month we will be collecting duffel bags for foster kids in Summit County. We will announce our next project at our March meeting.

January Announcements

Since we were unable to meet for our January meeting, we wanted to pass on some information to all of you. First of all, Heather Oakes’ sister is seeking feedback from members of our group for her thesis. Here is the email I received from her:

I am working on my thesis and am looking for families who have children with some sort of disability, illness or health condition in the Akron, Canton and Cleveland areas. I’m looking for children who
are still in the womb through age 18.

As I am in the research phase of the project now, I’d like to speak with the families over the phone first and then meet with them in person to get an idea of what their biggest challenges as a family are. The information will be used primarily for my thesis, but as I am working on other assignments for my master’s degree and for freelancing, they should be aware that the information may be used outside of the thesis and for publication.
